Joshua Champion, BA

Community Mentor

Hi! My name is Josh Champion, BA, (he/him/his), and I have served as a community mentor with Seasons Counseling since 2017. I graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Platteville with a degree in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. Following college, I began my career with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, working in both juvenile and adult settings. Over the course of more than 15 years, I spent the majority of my time as an adult probation and parole agent in Milwaukee and Columbia counties. During my tenure with the Department of Corrections, I gained extensive experience as a subject matter specialist for both the Department’s Trauma-Informed Care Initiative and Mobility Initiative. I became highly proficient in motivational interviewing techniques, evidence-based practices, and advanced substance identification which was coupled with engaging in community-based outreach programs. Motivated by a desire to support individuals in a different environment, I transitioned to my current role at Seasons Counseling. As a community mentor, I work with both children and adults, using a strength-based approach to help individuals develop social skills, build independent living capabilities, and sustain meaningful periods of sobriety. I strongly believe that helping individuals build their self-worth can create lasting, far-reaching impacts across all areas of life. I often incorporate outdoor-based activities to gently guide those I work with outside their comfort zones and uncover hidden strengths and potential. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with family and friends—preferably outdoors. You can often find me mountain biking, long boarding, stand-up paddle boarding, disc golfing, woodworking, or expanding upon and listening to my vinyl collection.
